QUESTIONS FOR STUDENTS
After reading the story to students, ask them the following questions:
-
What is a treasure hunt? Have you ever been on a treasure hunt?
-
What kind of unusual treasure do you think Mike and Muffy might find?
EXTENDED ACTIVITIES
-
Bring a cardboard box and have students create a treasure chest.
-
Have the students draw the outline of the state of Alabama on a brown paper grocery sack and mark the school's location on it. Use this for a treasure map as the following stories are read.
-
If a classroom computer is available, put the story on it. Let students read the story to one another or to another class.
-
Make copies of the two-page illustrated book which follows the story. Show students how to make a book of these and allow them to take their books home to share with others.
