QUESTIONS FOR STUDENTS

After reading the story to students, ask them the following questions:

  1. What is a treasure hunt? Have you ever been on a treasure hunt?
  2. What kind of unusual treasure do you think Mike and Muffy might find?

EXTENDED ACTIVITIES

  1. Bring a cardboard box and have students create a treasure chest.
  2. Have the students draw the outline of the state of Alabama on a brown paper grocery sack and mark the school's location on it. Use this for a treasure map as the following stories are read.
  3. If a classroom computer is available, put the story on it. Let students read the story to one another or to another class.
  4. Make copies of the two-page illustrated book which follows the story. Show            students how to make a book of these and allow them to take their books home        to share with others.
