Chapter I

MIKE AND MUFFY FIND A TREASURE MAP

        Mike and Muffy were two students at Home Town Elementary School.

        Every day they ate lunch in the school cafeteria.

        Every day they sat next to one another at the lunch table.

        One day as Muffy looked at her lunch tray she said, " Look, Mike. See what I chose to eat today? Catfish, potatoes, salad, peach slices, hot rolls, and milk. Yum! "

        Mike looked at her tray, and then he said, " I hope my mom packed what I like best in my lunch today.

        I like to eat peanut butter treats every day.

        They are wonderful. " As Mike opened his lunch box and looked inside, he saw peanut butter treats, but he also saw  something else. " What's this? " he asked as he held up a piece of paper. "

        It looks like a treasure map to me, " Muffy answered.

        " If this is a real treasure map, it means that you and I can go on a treasure hunt ! " Mike replied.

        " I'd like to do that, " said Muffy. " But how will we know where to go ? "

        " That's easy. We'll just take this map to Mr. Alvin and ask him to help us.

        He's a computer wizard, and he lives near here. He has a lot about everything stored in his memory, and I know he can help us, " Mike said in an important voice.

        " Let's go ask the teacher when we can visit Mr. Alvin. I can hardly wait ! " Muffy said excitedly.

        " Hello, Mike and Muffy. I'm very pleased to meet you. How can I be of help to you ? " Mr. Alvin asked in his very best computer voice.

        " Oh, please, Mr. Alvin, can you show us how to read this piece of paper and find some treasure ? " Mike and Muffy asked at the same time.

        Mr. Alvin took the folded paper from them and studied it carefully. " Let me search my memory and see what I have in it. "

        After several minutes passed, he looked at the two children and continued in a solemn voice, " I think this map will lead you to some most unusual treasure."
